Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Cycle Taxation.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the scale of road tax for motor cycles is greater here than in Great Britain, and that £3 per annum is payable in respect of private cycles to which a mini-motor ½ h.p. attachment has been affixed; and whether he will take steps, if necessary by the introduction of proposals for legislation, to revise the motor taxation rates paid on all motor cycles.

I am aware that the position as regards road tax on motor cycles and on bicycles with mini-motor attachments is as stated by the Deputy. Motor taxation generally, in common with other taxation, will be reviewed in connection with the next Budget and, if any changes are found desirable, these will be provided for in the Finance Bill.
