Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 16 Nov 1949

Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Banteer-Newmarket Branch Railway Line.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is now prepared to make arrangements for the reopening of the Banteer-Newmarket, County Cork, branch railway line for goods traffic.

The question of branch railway lines was debated at some length on the Second Stage of the Transport Bill, 1949. I indicated in reply to the debate that I intended to introduce an amendment for the establishment of a transport tribunal, one of whose functions would be concerned with branch railway lines. Pending further consideration of the matter during subsequent stages of the Bill I do not propose to ask Córas Iompair Éireann to take any action in regard to the line mentioned by the Deputy.
