Vol. 118 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position regarding the proposed housing schemes for Castleisland and Dingle, County Kerry; and when work is likely to commence in each district.

A scheme of ten cottages is at present in progress in the Castleisland area. A proposal by the Kerry County Council to acquire a further site in Castleisland for housing purposes is at present being examined. A decision in the matter will be conveyed to the local authority at an early date. No proposals for the acquisition of housing sites in Dingle have been submitted by the council. I understand, however, that the acquisition of a site in the town is under active consideration.

Provision for the acquisition of four sites to accommodate six cottages in the Dingle rural area is made in the Kerry County (Rural) (Compulsory Purchase) No. 2 Order, 1949, which was submitted for confirmation. The acquisition of one of those sites was unopposed and has been confirmed accordingly.

Pending the submission of plans for final approval I am not in a position to say when work is likely to commence in those districts.
