Vol. 118 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minor Relief Grants.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether he has under consideration the provision of a minor relief grant for the repair of the road from Slattery's house, Cloonfane, to Nestor's house at Quinaltagh (E.D. Addergoole), and, if so, when the work is expected to begin.

The only application recently received by me for works on this road was on the 9th November, 1949 from Messrs. William Connolly and John Kerrigan, Cloonfane, Garrafraunes, Tuam, County Galway.

An inspection will be made as soon as possible and the interested parties will be informed of the result in due course.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will provide a minor relief grant or sanction a peat development grant for the repair of the road from Addergoole to Garrafraunes (E.D. Addergoole) which serves turf haulage, school children, and people going to Mass, and is at present in a deplorable condition, and if so, whether he will state when work is likely to begin.

The road was repaired some years ago under a grant from my office, and the only application since received for further work was that received on 18th November, 1949, from Mr. J.J. Coleman, Garrafraunes, Tuam, County Galway. I shall have an inspection made and will inform the interested parties of the result in due course.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the grant made available for this work only partially did the job and it was expected that it might be continued? In view of that, will he make an effort to get more money expended, because of the condition of the road?

The application was not made until November 18th.

There was an application made and there was money expended on the road, but it was not sufficient.

A previous application was made in 1933.
