Vol. 118 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Piers.

asked the Minister for Finance (1) if he is aware of the extreme urgency of carrying out the work of extension and improvement of the Reenard Point Pier, Cahirciveen; (2) what is the cause of the delay; and (3) if he can now state when are arrangements likely to be complete for the work to begin.

Before works at Reenard Point Pier can be undertaken, various matters require to be settled, including the nature and extent of the works, the method by which they may be financed and the arrangements to be made for their future maintenance. These matters are still under consideration, as is also the question as to whether legislation may not be necessary to give effect to whatever financial and maintenance arrangements may be decided upon. There will be no avoidable delay in dealing with the case.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the reasons for the delay in erecting Coornigileach Pier, Tuosist, County Kerry, and when the scheme is likely to be put into operation.

A small portion of the foreshore required for the extension of the pier forms part of a tenancy held by a local landholder, and before work can be started it is necessary to have the tenancy agreement revised. It is hoped to have the work put in hands in the coming spring.
