Vol. 118 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Aluminium Rainwater Material.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) if he will state the quantity of aluminium rainwater material imported into this country during the last 12 months; (b) whether he is aware that this material is regarded as only third rate, and is not recommended by the authorities in England, and (c) if he will state when an adequate supply of Irish manufactured rainwater goods will be available.

(a) In the 12 months ended October, 1949, 2,630 cwts. of aluminium rainwater goods were imported into this country; (b) I am not aware that the position regarding the quality of this material is as indicated by the Deputy; (c) in view of the rapidly expanding demand occasioned by new housing and other building projects it is not possible to state when the supply of Irish manufactured rainwater goods will be adequate to the total demand, but I understand that, in addition to the existing concerns, new manufacturing units will shortly be in production.
