Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lime Grants and Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (i) the amount of each grant for lime made by his Department to each county committee of agriculture in the State for (a) the year 1947-48, and (b) 1949-50; (ii) the amount of the local contribution in each period, and (iii) the total amount expended on the lime distribution scheme in the country for each of the aforesaid periods.

As the answer is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, to have the information asked for by the Deputy circulated in the Official Report.

The following are the particulars asked for:—

* The grants offered to Counties Carlow and Cork Committees of Agriculture in 1949/50 were later increased to £2,800 and £12,000 respectively; the additional amounts to be provided out of savings on the scheme in other counties.

(iii) The total amount paid in subsidies under the lime subsidy scheme in the year 1947-48 was £57,415 2s. 3d. (inclusive of amounts contributed by the county committees of agriculture). It will not be possible to state the amount expended under the scheme in 1949-50 until after the 31st March, 1950.
