Vol. 120 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Industry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the total amount of free grants in respect of the general development of the inshore fishing industry during the coming year.

The figure of £24,000 at sub-head G (1) of the Estimate for Fisheries for 1950-51 includes a sum of £9,000 for the purpose mentioned in the Deputy's question.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) when he proposes to reorganise completely the sea fishing industry as promised by him during the debate on the Estimates for Fisheries for 1949-50, and (b) the amount provided in the present year's Estimate for such reorganisation.

Draft proposals for the reorganisation of the sea-fishing industry have been prepared and are under consideration. I hope to make known the general lines on which it is intended to proceed soon. It is not feasible to make provision in the Estimate for Fisheries until a final decision on the proposals has been taken.
