Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state how the retail price of rationed butter in this country compares with the prices paid for butter by home consumers in New Zealand, Australia, U.S.A., Belgium, Denmark and Canada.

Creamery butter sold in this country is retailed to domestic consumers at 2/8 per lb. The retail price to consumers in the other countries mentioned in the Deputy's question is as follows:—New Zealand, 1/6 per lb.; Australia, 1/9 per lb.; U.S.A., 4/9½ to 5/- per lb.; Belgium, 5/2 to 6/7 per lb.; Denmark, 2/10 to 3/1 per lb.; Canada, 4/2 to 4/3½ per lb.
