Vol. 120 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mineral Exploration.

Mr. Burke

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will arrange to have a mineral exploration survey carried out in County Dublin with a view to ascertaining the mineral resources of the county.

The mineral resources of County Dublin have already been fully surveyed on several occasions and it is most improbable that a further survey, if undertaken, would add anything to the information which is already available on the subject. Small deposits of lead and copper ore are known to exist in a number of localities but the indications are that, in general, development could not be undertaken on an economic basis.

Is the Minister aware that I was stopped coming in at Swords to-day by 100 men who are idle? I am very anxious that the Tánaiste should carry out his promises to do something for the people who are idle.

If the Deputy has a supplementary question, he should put it.

Is the Minister aware that there was an old coal mine worked at the Naul, County Dublin, some years ago?

How many years ago? Do not be chasing yourself.
