Vol. 120 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the farm of Mr. John Mullen (deceased), Killenduff, Easkey, County Sligo, at present let on the 11 months' system.

These lands have been inspected but the Land Commission have not yet reached a decision on the question of acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the farm of Mr. Gilmartin, Rathmoney, Ballintogher, County Sligo.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state at what stage proceedings are at the moment for the acquisition of the Jackson farm, Kilfenora, County Clare, and whether, in consideration of the need for a supply of household milk for the village, he will urge on the Land Commission the need for early action in the matter.

There will be no avoidable delay in completing these proceedings which have passed the initial stage.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that at least 4,000 acres of arable land are held in Carron, North Clare, by ten people who use it for grazing purposes only, and whether representations have repeatedly been made to him and to the Land Commission concerning the desirability of acquiring and distributing some or all of this land amongst the small farmers and landless men on its borders, and if he will state whether the Land Commission have now acquired any of this land and how soon they intend to distribute it in the interest of increased production in the State.

Representations have been made for the acquisition of land in the Carron district. The Land Commission recently acquired 100 acres in the area and the land will be allotted as soon as possible. A further 1,000 acres have been noted for consideration.

Is the Minister aware that the owners of these 4,000 acres of lands are non-resident and that, in the case of one of them, in addition to owning two large estates in the Carron district in County Clare, he owns upwards of 1,000 acres in County Meath?

I have stated in the reply that 100 acres were recently acquired in the area and that a further 1,000 acres have been noted for consideration.

Well, there are 2,000 acres more there.

asked the Minister for Lands if proceedings have been instituted or are contemplated for the acquisition of the lands of Castlepark, Kiltulla, near Athenry, owned by Mrs. Glynn.

I presume this question refers to the lands of Killtulagh registered in the name of Mrs. John Glynn, formerly Mrs. Margaret Glynn. The Land Commission have no proceedings in respect of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what estates have been acquired by his Department in County Waterford which have not yet been allocated, and if he will state when these may be dealt with.

The Land Commission have no estates on hands in this county which have not been allotted.
