asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, whether, in view of the total inadequacy of the present telephone system in the Carrigart and Downings exchange districts, particularly during the holiday season, he will state what steps he proposes to take to relieve the situation.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Services.
Mr. Blaney
The trunk circuits connecting Downings, Carrigart and Milford are overloaded, and there is consequently fairly heavy delay to calls exchanged between these places. An additional circuit is needed between Downings and Milford, and work will commence shortly on its erection. This additional circuit, when it becomes available in about two months' time, will cause a substantial improvement in the telephone service in the area.
Mr. Blaney
asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, in view of the increased number of telephone subscribers, he will arrange to have a continuous telephone service made available at Milford, Carrigart and Downings Post Offices.
The hours of service at the exchanges mentioned are the standard hours for exchanges of their size. The number of subscribers at Milford is much greater than at the other two exchanges, and as the number is likely to grow further during the year the question of giving continuous service from this exchange will be reviewed later in the year.
