Vol. 123 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Offences.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of prosecutions for traffic offences in the Dublin Metropolitan area since 1st January last, and the corresponding numbers for 1949, 1948 and 1938.

The number of persons prosecuted for offences under the Road Traffic Act during the years 1938, 1948, and 1949 were 7,311, 19,964 and 19,313 respectively. Figures for the period from 1st January last are not available. Returns of summary prosecutions are made out only once a year and I do not think that the work involved in compiling a return for the period referred to would be warranted.
