Vol. 123 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Inspection Work.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of officers of the Land Commission at present engaged on inspection work on farms under consideration for division, the number at present engaged in preparing schemes for the division of estates and the total number of officials engaged on the working of this section of his Department.

There are no Land Commission inspectors engaged exclusively on the work referred to in the Deputy's question; they perform numerous other duties and are employed indoors for considerable periods as well as on inspection work in the field. The total number of inspectors on active service throughout the country is at present 116. It would be a costly and futile task to assess the precise strength engaged at any time on any particular work, and I do not propose to make the assessment.

There are 64 indoor officials employed at headquarters in connection with the acquisition and resale of untenanted land and other matters appertaining thereto.

Could the Minister indicate what part of the country the 116 inspectors are operating in? Where are they?

They are not in Offaly; they are not in Laoighis; they are not in Mayo.

They are coming.
