Vol. 124 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Former Ministers' Guard.

Mr. de Valera

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that the guard assigned since the change of Government to certain former Ministers for protective purposes have lately been greatly strengthened, and if he will tell the Dáil what special circumstances have caused this action to be taken.

I consider that it would not be in the public interest to give any information concerning the extent of, or the reasons for, any special protection which is afforded to any person or property.

Mr. de Valera

May I ask the Minister if it has any connection with the matter which I raised in question No. 1? I intended both questions for the Taoiseach.

No, it has no relation.

Is the gun coming back into politics?

Not unless you bring it back.

It takes an O'Higgins.

Surely there should be some reason.

It would not be in the public interest to give any.

Has it anything to do with the convention in Cavan?

The Deputy has no shame.

You were fully shamed in the News of the World.

You will only find that in the Molly Maguires.
