Vol. 124 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Tractors.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that at least 100 suitable farm tractors with full equipment are required in Dublin County immediately and that tractor agents find difficulty in fulfilling orders and if he will indicate what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

My information is that orders placed for agricultural tractors for the present sowing season are greatly in excess of previous seasons, due to a large extent to efforts by prospective purchasers to forestall anticipated increases in prices and probable shortages of these machines. There has been a considerable falling off of imports of certain types, particularly U.S.A. tractors, but, on the other hand, increased supplies of other types are being received. The number of tractors in use on the land has increased each year and I am confident that those engaged in the trade are making every effort to procure supplies.
