Vol. 126 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duty on Tractor Petrol.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give consideration to introducing proposals for legislation for a further reduction in the duty on petrol used in agricultural tractors.

No doubt the question refers to the partial repayment of duty allowed in respect of petrol used in certain agricultural tractors and farm engines. To meet the recent increase of 2d. per gallon in the duty on petrol, repayment is now allowed at the increased rate of 8d. per gallon instead of the former 6d. per gallon. No question of legislation arises.

Will the Minister consider a reduction in the present price?

I am afraid that question is premature. I will have to consider the financial situation before I can give a definite answer to it.
