Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Supply in Whiddy Island.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will review the position with regard to the milk supply on Whiddy Island in view of the general dissatisfaction of the islanders with regard to the recent decision of the Drinagh Co-operative Creamery, Limited.

Mr. Walsh

I have already had under review the position of the milk producers on Whiddy Island and I am at present investigating the practicability of having a cream separating station established by the Dairy Disposal Company on the island, and I am hopeful that, as a result, it will be found possible to solve this problem.

This matter was under review in the immediate past and it was decided not to erect a separating station. If the eventuality should arise, might I ask the Minister if he will consider the possibility of sub-sidising some form of suitable transport in order to ensure that the islanders will have an opportunity of getting their cream into Bantry?

Mr. Walsh

The matter has been under investigation for the past fortnight.
