Vol. 126 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol and Oil Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in view of the present uncertain international situation, what steps, if any, are being taken to safeguard supplies of petrol and oil for the country's requirements.

The oil companies have been urged, and have undertaken, to keep stocks of petrol and oil at the highest level possible within the existing storage capacity. I find that the existing storage capacity will not accommodate more than a limited reserve stock. The extension of storage capacity is being considered, but the companies have advised that it is impracticable at present owing to the shortage of steel.
