Vol. 126 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Health Inspector.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware that on 3rd February, 1951, the Kildare County Council sent the statutory request to the Local Appointments Commission for the selection by the commission of a health inspector, and if he will state whether the appropriate advertisements for applications have been issued; and, if so, on what date.

The statutory request referred to by the Deputy was received by the Local Appointments Commissioners on the 6th February, 1951; the vacancy has not yet been advertised, but the commissioners hope to be in a position to advertise it shortly.

The delay in advertising this vacancy has been due mainly to the fact that, at the time when the statutory request was received by the commissioners, the Minister concerned had under consideration the making of a revised declaration of qualifications for this type of post generally, so as to give a concession, as regards the maximum age-limit for candidates, to certain temporary officers of local authorities. In addition to this, the commissioners propose, in accordance with their normal practice, to hold a single combined competition for the post mentioned in the question and a number of similar posts under other local authorities in which vacancies also happen to exist; the making of the necessary administrative arrangements for this purpose has further contributed to the delay.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the matter will be dealt with?

As soon as possible.

I have heard that one before.
