Vol. 126 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fruit Growing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is his intention to give special protection during the fruit season to Irish fruit growers and if he will state what steps, if any, he intends to take.

Mr. Walsh

It is my intention to continue the protective measures already in force. Under these arrangements all fruits commercially grown here are protected by import duties. In addition the importation of raw apples and fruit pulps is subject to quantitative control and import licences are not granted until home growers have been afforded a reasonable opportunity of disposing of their crops.
