Vol. 126 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pay Increases.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will indicate when it is hoped to give increases to Army personnel and whether as an interim benefit he will authorise the payment of some portion of the increases before the current holiday season ends.

The upward revision of the pay of members of the Defence Forces is receiving consideration. I cannot at the moment say with certainty when I shall be able to announce the increases but I shall ensure that there is no unnecessary delay. I had already considered the question of an interim payment to which the Deputy refers, and I hope to be able to make such a payment to officers of the permanent force at the end of this month and to non-commissioned officers and men of the permanent force on the first pay-day in August.

I congratulate the Minister on that.
