Vol. 127 No. 1

Questions— Written Answers. - Broadcast of Political Discussions.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange to have time made available by Radio Éireann for the broadcast of political discussions, debates and speeches by an agreed arrangement with the political Parties in the State so that the citizens may take a more active interest in and more fully understand proposed legislation and the various political programmes and objects.

I have already been giving consideration to the matter raised by the Deputy in the question. Arrangements have been made to give fuller opportunity for radio discussions on controversial questions in connection with which there may be opposing political viewpoints. The question of how far political Parties may express their views through a series of broadcasts at appropriate times is also under consideration.
