Vol. 127 No. 1

Questions— Written Answers. - Price of Certified Seed Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the price which will be paid to growers of certified seed potatoes in the coming season, in North Mayo.

Mr. Walsh

There is no guaranteed price for seed potatoes. The price to be paid to growers in the North Mayo or any other area will depend on the efforts of the Irish Potato Marketing Company to dispose of the produce profitably. I understand from that company that they are prepared to pay licensed merchants for seed potatoes for the export market a price which should enable these merchants to pay growers from £10 10s. 0d. to £11 per ton for Arran Banner—the class most extensively grown in the area referred to. This price refers to seed potatoes which are graded 1¼" × 2¼" and which comply in all respects with the requirements of the export market.
