Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revision of Motor Vehicle Taxation.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the inequitable burden now for some years borne by the motoring public, he will consider immediately the revision of the system of motor vehicle taxation generally by the introduction of a flat rate or removal of the increased taxation imposed by the Supplementary Budget of 1947 and which, at the time, was announced as a temporary expedient.

The general question of motor taxation is at present being examined by the Departments concerned. Any modification in the existing basis of taxation which may be found desirable and possible will be carried through in due course in a Finance Bill.
