Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Youth Rally in Eastern Berlin.

andDr. Esmonde asked the Minister for Justice if the students of foreign nationality who left Ireland in August of this year to attend the youth rally in Eastern Berlin have returned to this country, and, if so, whether he will consider the advisability of having them deported.

I am aware that a small number of foreign students went to Berlin at the time of the Soviet-sponsored Youth Rally, and that they have since returned to this country. I do not consider that there are sufficient grounds for deporting them.

Does the Minister not consider that this type of people in this particular country are a menace? In other countries that are at the moment subjugated under the heel of Communism they commenced in exactly the same way with a few foreigners coming in and disturbing the populace generally.

I am satisfied that the Department of Justice is looking after that matter sufficiently well.
