Vol. 127 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Traffic Act.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will request the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána to have bye-laws made under the Road Traffic Act by virtue of which heavy vehicles must, except when overtaking another heavy vehicle, maintain an interval of at least 25 yards between each other.

The Commissioner, Garda Síochána, has informed me that he has considered the making of such a bye-law but that he has come to the conclusion that it would serve no useful purpose to do so owing to the difficulties of enforcement.

Would the Minister say why such a bye-law is found so satisfactory on the Continent?

I will if the Deputy conforms to the rules of this House and stands up and addresses the supplementary question to me.

What is the Minister doing now? Sitting on his intelligence.
