Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valentia Postal Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory nature of postal facilities at Chapeltown, Valentia, due to the fact that the mails collected daily are held overnight at Valentia sorting office until next day's despatch at 1.30 p.m.; also that any letters posted there after 3 p.m. on Saturday are held over until collected for Valentia at 2.30 p.m. on Monday where they remain until despatched on Tuesday; if he is also aware that, as a result of this, people wishing to avail of an early delivery have to travel over seven miles to Knightstown and if, in the circumstances, he will arrange to have improved postal facilities provided in the area in question.

I am having arrangements made to afford a collection of mails from Chapeltown Sub-Post Office in time to secure the outward despatch from Valentia Island.
