Vol. 129 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sewerage Scheme for Killeigh (Offaly).

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether proposals have been before his Department for a considerable time in connection with the need for a proper sewerage scheme for the village of Killeigh, near Tullamore, County Offaly, where the open sewerage system comes out on to the local green and if he will now have this matter investigated immediately and take steps in the interests of public health to see that immediate action is taken in this matter.

No proposals for the provision of a sewerage scheme at Killeigh have been submitted to my Department.

In view of the seriousness of the position in Killeigh, and the fact that the general public have complained, if the local authority do not take action in the interest of the public health of the village surely the Minister for Local Government must have some responsibility in directing the attention of the local authority to the need for immediate action in a case of this nature?

I am not aware that the Minister for Local Government has received any representation in the matter. According to my information, no complaints, in fact, have been received in the Department recently. In the circumstances——

In view of the fact that the Minister states that no complaints have been received recently, does that mean that some complaints were received some years ago?

That is a separate question.

No complaints have been received for some years past, at any rate.
