Vol. 130 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Canning Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will recommend to the Industrial Development Authority that they should explore the possibility of the erection of a vegetable canning and bottling factory in the Rush-Lusk area of County Dublin.

The establishment of an industry of the kind to which the Deputy refers is a matter for private enterprise. I am prepared to take any action which is within my power to assist a practical proposal for the establishment of a vegetable canning and bottling industry in the Rush-Lusk area of County Dublin.

Surely there is upon the Industrial Development Authority and upon the Minister some obligation to at least suggest that it might investigate the possibilities in that direction so that private enterprise, if it so desires, would be fully informed of the potentialities.

That is hardly the function of the Industrial Development Authority. If anybody is interested in this development the information available in the Department will, of course, be made available.
