Vol. 131 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disposal of Balances.

asked the Minister for Finance how it is proposed to dispose of the balance on special account of the Minister for Finance with the Central Bank of £65,086 referred to in Table V, Financial Statement, 1952, Tables (Assets).

The amount referred to by the Deputy will, subject to any adjustment that may be necessary, be transferred to the American Loan Counterpart Fund in accordance with Section 4 (3) of the Central Fund Act, 1949.

asked the Minister for Finance how it is proposed to dispose of the balance on Loan Counterpart Fund, £41,137,518, referred to in Table V, Financial Statement, 1952, Tables (Assets).

The American Loan Counterpart Fund is the investing medium for loan counterpart moneys. Apart from the sum of £7,518 10s. held in the form of cash, the balance of £41,137,518 10s. on the fund at 31st March, 1952, was represented by £40,500,000 lent to the Exchequer in the form of Ways and Means Advances and £630,000 invested in mortgage stocks of the Agricultural Credit Corporation.

Would the Minister say when the £40,000,000 to which he refers was appropriated to Ways and Means Advances, stating in respect of each quarter of the financial year the amount so appropriated? Perhaps I should put down another question about that, which the Minister would be able to answer at his leisure.

I would appreciate it if the Deputy would put down another question.

I will do so, with great delight.
