Vol. 131 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the necessity of extending the telephone service to the Valley, Beaufort, County Kerry; and, if so, if he will sanction the carrying through of the scheme at an early date.

The provision of a public telephone at the Valley, where there is no post office, would not be warranted.

The only means by which a public call office could be provided would be under guarantee by the local authority against loss and if Kerry County Council are interested, terms will be quoted on request. The installation would, however, have to wait its turn after all the post offices where public telephones have yet to be installed under the new two-year rural call office programme had been dealt with.

Would the Minister intimate to the local authority that if they initiate the scheme his Department will co-operate with them?

Mr. Boland

I will ask the Minister about that. I cannot say.
