Vol. 133 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Water Supply Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if his Department received a proposal from the Kerry County Council for his approval to extend the present water scheme to Tieraclea, Tarbert, and, if so, if he will state the date of receipt of the proposal and the reason for delay in giving approval.

No proposals for the extension referred to by the Deputy have been submitted to me by the sanitary authority.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a deputation from Cloghan district, Castlegregory, County Kerry, indicated to a meeting of the Kerry County Council on the 6th June, 1952 in connection with the extension of the water supply to the villages of Cappa and Ballyquinn that the people of these districts have to cart water for miles for at least nine months of the year and, if so, if he will state if he is prepared to allocate a grant to cover the full cost of extending the water supply to these villages.

I am not aware of the position as stated in the first part of the Deputy's question. Following representations received by me on the matter I have asked the sanitary authority for a report which is awaited. If a scheme is submitted and approved, financial assistance would not take the form of a grant but would be made available in the form of contributions towards the loan charges.
