Vol. 133 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carrick-on-Shannon Fever Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that the Leitrim County Council unanimously adopted a report from the county medical officer recommending the opening of the fever hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon, as a tuberculosis hospital, in which it was stated that the existing accommodation in Manorhamilton was most unsuitable and the number of beds for tuberculosis patients entirely inadequate; and, further, that the county council passed a resolution demanding that the hospital be opened immediately and, if so, if he will give an indication as to the probability of the opening of this hospital.

I am aware of the position as indicated in the first part of the Deputy's question and am in complete sympathy with the desire of the health authority to use the institution as a tuberculosis hospital. I am in communication with the local authority in connection with the matter and, subject to the agreement of that authority in regard to certain matters, which agreement I do not think it will be difficult to secure, it should be possible to arrange for the admission of patients in the near future.
