Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant.

Michael Noonan

Question:

86 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education the reason a higher education grant was not renewed for a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and if she will review this case with a view to awarding the grant.

It is understood from Limerick County Council, the body statutorily entrusted with administration of the scheme in the candidate's area, that a higher education grant was paid on a provisional basis for three years between 1987-88 and 1989-90. The eligibility of holders of provisional awards may be reviewed by the local authority on grounds of means, on an annual basis.

It is also understood from Limerick County Council that the reckonable income in this case for the year ended 5 April 1990 is such as to warrant renewal of grant for the 1990-91 academic year at the rate of full fees and the council will be informing the applicant accordingly.
