Vol. 133 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corrandulla (Galway) Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, having regard to the fact that public telephone facilities at Corrandulla, County Galway, are entirely inadequate to meet local requirements, whereby much inconvenience is caused, he will indicate the steps he proposes to take in relief of the position.

I assume the Deputy is referring to delays on calls from the telephone call office in Corrandulla Post Office. I am not aware of any inordinate delay in getting calls from Corrandulla to Galway and other places in the west. There is, however, delay on calls through Galway to Dublin because the circuits on the Galway-Dublin route are overloaded. As I outlined in my speech on the Estimates it is hoped to have additional circuits, giving a no delay service, on this route by the end of the year.

The reason I raised this matter was that, when a doctor or a veterinary surgeon is required, considerable distances have to be travelled before telephone facilities become available.
