Vol. 134 No. 9

Private Deputies' Business. - Local Government Bill, 1952—Order for Special Committee.

I move:—

That the Local Government Bill, 1952, be referred to a Special Committee consisting of 15 members to be nominated by the Committee of Selection;

That the quorum of the committee be six;

That the first meeting of the committee be on Thursday, 13th November, at 2.30 p.m.

That is all right so long as it is understood that amendments need not be in by next Thursday.

It does not give the Committee of Selection an adequate opportunity to nominate 15 members.

I suggest to Deputy McQuillan that he should fix another day, Wednesday week for instance.

I will make it Thursday, the 20th November.

Agreed.

Motion, as amended, put and agreed to.

I presume that Nos. 24 and 25, the Public Authorities (Judicial Proceedings) Bill, 1952, and the Land Bill, 1951, will be passed over for the present?

It was agreed on the last occasion when the debate was adjourned on the Public Authorities (Judicial Proceedings) Bill that it would be left over pending consideration of the matter by the Minister for Justice and that it would stand adjourned unless I raised it again or the Minister for Justice brought forward alternative proposals.
