Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Telephone Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he has received a petition from the residents in the Moylough district asking for an extension of the telegraph system between Moylough and Brierfield, County Galway, thereby connecting Tuam directly; and, if so, if he will have the matter examined at an early date with a view to having the necessary few miles of line connected so as to facilitate this important area.

The answer to the first part of the question is yes. The cost of providing a direct telephone line between Moylough and Brierfield, however, would not be justified at present by the small number of calls that would be carried on such a circuit. The most economical way of improving the service between the Moylough and Tuam areas is to provide additional circuits on the existing routes. The additional circuits necessary will be provided in the next financial year.
