Vol. 135 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cereal Grants.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider giving substantial grants for the purchase of storage, cleaning and drying machinery for cereals to farmers for the coming year.

I am not in a position to give grants towards the purchase of farm machinery. Loans are available for that purpose. Substantial grants are provided under the farm buildings scheme for the erection of storage accommodation for grain and other farm produce.

Are grants being given to other people for purposes such as the erection of silos?

Heretofore storage has been provided by grain millers and grain importers at the ports. Now granaries all over the country are eligible for assistance.

Are grants given for port silos?

I have not got that information here.

It is a separate question.
