Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Montan Wax Extraction Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if the Government or any private firm is contemplating the setting up of a factory for the extraction of montan wax from peat.

The Government do not contemplate setting up such a factory. There has been a number of proposals by private firms and individuals to establish plants for the extraction of wax from peat on a commercial basis. None of the proposals submitted up to the present came to fruition.

Arrangements are being made to have more detailed data collected on the wax content of peat from various bogs throughout the country, which I consider to be necessary to enable a reliable assessment to be made of the possibilities of peat wax extraction on a commercial scale.
