Vol. 137 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fish Filleters.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that fish merchants in the City of Dublin are unable to procure filleters for fresh fish and that the appropriate unions are unable to fill the labour requirements of these merchants; and, if so, if he will take steps in consultation with the unions to have sufficient boys trained forthwith to meet increasing demands for their services.

I have heard no complaints alleging a shortage of fish filleters in Dublin.

The provision of trained labour for any particular trade is a matter primarily for the persons engaged in that trade, in consultation with the appropriate trade union. I am prepared to assist in any way open to me the efforts of those persons to overcome any shortage of trained labour which may be shown to exist.
