Vol. 137 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Turbary Plots.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a number of uneconomic holders residing in the parishes of Killimordaly and Kiltulla, County Galway, are in need of turbary plots, and in view of the approach of the turf-cutting season whether the Land Commission will give prior consideration to the claims of these local applicants in the division of the Killimordaly Bog, County Galway (estate of Reps. William and Denis St. George Daly. Record No. S.3736); and further, if the Land Commission will ensure that a fair proportion of that bog will be provided for allotment to the residents of the above-named town-lands for commercial purposes, to supplement the income from their otherwise uneconomic holdings.

The Land Commission are aware of the position in this area and are at present developing a considerable area of turbary there. Allotment cannot be undertaken until the bogs are developed but meanwhile seasonal lettings are being made as far as possible. The requirements of all applicants will be fully considered before allotment takes place.
