Vol. 138 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brosna Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will include in the Brosna drainage scheme the stream known as the Island Brook, Lumcloon, Cloghan, County Offaly, which causes extensive flooding and prevents local farmers from availing of the land rehabilitation scheme; and if he will have it attended to immediately.

I cannot accept the contention that the Island Brook causes extensive floodingand prevents local farmers from availing themselves of the land rehabilitation scheme. The simple clearance work required to prevent such waterlogging as occurs on the lower reaches of the brook is of a type ordinarily dealt with by landowners, and the inclusion of the brook in the Brosna scheme would not be warranted.
