Vol. 138 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Hospitals Employees' Wages.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that there is considerable dissatisfaction amongst employees of local authorities on the domestic staff of county hospitals with regard to pay and conditions of service and whether he is prepared to give immediate sanction to an increase in existing wages.

I am prepared to consider any proposals submitted by local authorities in regard to this matter.

Is the Minister aware that there are officials and officers of local authorities who have got no increase whatever and despite the fact that local authorities have made recommendations to the county managers to submit to the Minister's Department proposals for increases in salaries, the county managers have not done so? The Minister is surely aware that on more than one occasion where local authorities have made recommendations to the managers the managers have not put them into effect?

I do not know anything about that.
