Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourmakeady Knitting Industry.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of girls employed at Tourmakeady knitting industry in 1951, 1952 and at the moment and the total amount earned during the above years.

The number of girls employed at Tourmakeady Knitting Centre was 23 in 1951 and 20 in 1952. At present 30 girls are employed there. Their earnings were £1,882 1s. 11d. in 1951 and £1,764 6s. 8d. in 1952. During the present year, wages totalling £1,226 19s. 11d. have been paid to date to these employees.

On what are these girls employed at the moment? Is it knitting?

The bulk of them are employed at knitting. There are four industrial assistants. There are two male workers. The exact number of girls employed on knitting would be 24.
