Vol. 141 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there is a considerable delay in having inspections by engineers carried outwhere people apply for reconstruction grants for dwelling-houses; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to have this matter remedied.

I am aware that there have been delays in some counties in recent months in the carrying out of inspections for reconstruction grant works. These delays arose from the large volume of applications received for these grants. The matter has been under constant review and improvements have been effected following additions to the inspectorial staff.

I presume that the Deputy's question relates to the position in Cork County. Temporary assistance has been made available from time to time in recent months to deal with the arrears position in this county. The matter is still being kept under review.
