Vol. 142 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he willstate when the E.S.B. proposes extending current to the area of Ballybofey-Cloghan, County Donegal.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Ballybofey-Cloghan district is in the Glenfin area and that an official canvass took place there last year. The area has since been considered by the board on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme, but has not so far been selected, due to the fact that less than half the householders have agreed to take supply. The board is of the opinion that there is little likelihood of early development taking place in the area on the basis of its present returns.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. propose extending their rural electrification scheme to Innishowen, County Donegal.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the possibility of extending the rural electrification scheme to Innishowen, County Donegal, will be considered by the board as soon as they have completed certain technical arrangements which are at present under examination. It is not yet possible to say when supply is likely to be extended to the area.
