asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that many Irish speakers from the Gaeltacht are emigrating to England and elsewhere by reason of their inability to obtain employment in this country; and, if so, if he will take the necessary steps to provide employment for a definite proportion of Irish speakers in the labour-content required in industries established under the Undeveloped Areas Act, 1952.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Irish Speakers.
The employment of workers in any industry is a matter for the promoters and I have no power under any enactment to impose restrictions of the kind suggested inthe question. The extension of industrial employment generally in the undeveloped areas should, however, improve the prospects of persons in the Gaeltacht of getting employment of this character.
