Vol. 142 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maize Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what price is quoted by Grain Importers Limited for six ton lots of maize since October 30th, 1953, and when the December shipment price of £26 12s. 6d. per ton c.i.f. will be reproduced in Grain Importers' quotation.

The price quoted by Messrs. Grain Importers for six-ton lots of maize since 30th October, 1953,is £32 per ton carriage paid to the purchaser's nearest railway station. I propose to make an announcement shortly regarding a reduction in the selling price of maize.

It is nearly time you got around to it.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that many millers contend that were it not for the monopoly Grain Importers have in the importation of maize the price would be at least £5 per ton cheaper?

I am not so aware.
