Vol. 142 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Branch Railway Lines.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that in connection with applications made by C.I.E. for the closing of railway branch lines or the restriction of traffic on them, the Transport Tribunal requires parties objecting to the making of such Order to set out the terms of their objection beforehand in writing without stipulating that C.I.E. should also make available beforehand to interested parties the reasons why they are seeking the Order with data regarding maintenance and running expenses, extent of traffic, alternative transport and existing and possible new rates and fares; and, if so, if he will ensure that such details are available on request to interested parties so that it may be possible to study or examine them before the sitting of the tribunal.

The procedure to beadopted by the Transport Tribunal in connection with applications made by C.I.E. for the closing of branch railway lines or restriction of traffic on them is governed by the provisions of the Transport Act, 1950. I have, accordingly, no function in the matter.
